ABOUT NUVEE & KOA

Clinical care doesn’t stop when the appointment ends.

NuVee is building Koa, a clinician-designed AI care system for the GLP-1 treatment journey. Koa is designed to understand what happens between visits, support patients through the day-to-day realities of treatment, identify when something needs attention, and help close the loop back to care.

CLINICAL LEADERSHIP

Built from the exam room outward.

Jennie Luna, MD, MHA, DABOM

Founder & CEO · Clinical Leadership

Jennie is an endocrinologist and obesity medicine physician with 17 years of clinical practice. She founded NuVee after seeing the same gap repeatedly: patients spend only a fraction of their treatment journey in the exam room, while the side effects, uncertainty, behavior change, and moments that determine whether treatment works happen at home.

She leads Koa’s clinical design, patient-safety philosophy, and evidence strategy—grounding the system in real treatment journeys and the realities patients experience between visits.

HOW KOA IS CLINICALLY DESIGNED

Four principles guide the system.

01

Clear clinical boundaries

Koa supports treatment; she does not replace the treating clinician. Clinical boundaries are explicit, and situations that belong back in human care are designed to move there.

02

Safety by design

Koa is designed to recognize when a patient may need additional support and to support appropriate escalation back to the care team when human involvement is needed.

03

Support patient autonomy

Koa is designed to strengthen patient confidence and self-efficacy over time while remaining a supportive part of the care journey.

04

Longitudinal understanding

Longitudinal context allows Koa to support the individual in a way that reflects how their treatment experience evolves over time.

PATIENT SAFETY & TRUST

Patient trust is designed into the system.

Patient-facing AI requires rigor across the full care experience. NuVee evaluates safety across recognition, escalation, and follow-through so that important signals are handled consistently and appropriately.

Medication-specific grounding

Clinical content is grounded in authoritative, medication-specific information and the exact therapy context relevant to the patient.

Safer uncertainty

When confidence is limited, Koa is designed to favor safer responses and appropriate human review.

Human escalation

Escalation pathways are integrated into the care experience when clinician involvement is appropriate.

Deployment discipline

Privacy, security, access controls, and operational readiness are treated as core product requirements.

EVIDENCE PHILOSOPHY

Designed for measurable outcomes.

NuVee distinguishes engagement, reliability, safety, treatment persistence, and clinical outcomes so that each claim is supported by the right evidence.

Engagement ≠ persistenceUse and conversation do not automatically prove treatment continuation.
Feasibility ≠ outcome proofShort tests can validate usability and workflow, but not longer-term clinical outcomes.
Safety is validated function by functionDetection, confirmation, escalation, handoff, and follow-through each need independent and end-to-end evidence.
THE TEAM

Clinical judgment translated into a working care system.

NuVee is intentionally building a small, cross-functional team where clinical and engineering decisions are made together.

OUR ORIGIN

At the intersection of clinical medicine and translational innovation.

NuVee’s early development was shaped through work connected with San Diego State University and Scripps Research Translational Institute. NuVee now operates independently, carrying forward a simple premise: the most useful health AI will be built around real care workflows, measurable outcomes, and patient trust.
